Differences in income and status must be overcome by progressive taxation and guarantees of full employment. No one gave clearer expression to this viewpoint than President Obama himself, when, in a speech to the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, he lamented the tendency of too many Americans to cling to guns and religion and to be suspicions of immigrants.
